The Novo Nordisk Foundation supports project by Station and CBS Green Office aimed at strengthening students’ knowledge and engagement in the green transition
Press release: Frederiksberg, June 5, 2026
The student-driven innovation hub Station, together with CBS Green Office, is launching RELATE – Responsible Learning for the Green Transition in Higher Education. The project will provide students from higher education institutions across Greater Copenhagen with new opportunities to learn about and contribute to the green transition through collective and co-created activities. The Novo Nordisk Foundation supports the project with DKK 4.4 million over three years.
Through workshops, learning programs, student-led projects, and public events, RELATE will strengthen students’ knowledge, agency, and practical experience in working with sustainable solutions, enabling them to act as drivers of change.
Students will participate in learning programs, develop their own projects, and collaborate with researchers, experts, and external partners on real societal challenges. Through co-creation and feedback, students will also play an active role in shaping RELATE and support the integration of sustainability in their studies, career paths, and communities.
At the same time, the project will establish a cross-institutional network for educators and staff to strengthen knowledge sharing and the development of new sustainability learning formats across higher education institutions. RELATE will test and document scalable models that can strengthen student agency and institutional capacity across Danish universities.
“We are very pleased that the Novo Nordisk Foundation has chosen to support RELATE and thereby invest in students’ opportunities to actively engage in the green transition. With the project, we aim to create new learning spaces where students can turn knowledge into action and become co-creators of future solutions,” says Thomas Aaboe Fredholm, Head of Secretariat at Station.
“Students play a crucial role in the green transition. Through RELATE, we will use extracurricular activities to explore how students can bring their academic knowledge, ideas and engagement into play in collaboration with researchers, educators, and external partners. I hope the project can also inspire new ideas and initiatives at our educational institutions.” says Jens Riemer, Head of CBS Green Office.
RELATE has been developed in response to a growing demand for green competencies among students, educational institutions, and the labour market. The project will therefore develop and test new learning formats where students, educators, and external actors co-create educational and learning experiences focused on real-world societal challenges.
Together, Station and CBS Green Office have more than 10 years of experience engaging students in interdisciplinary learning communities, projects, and collaborations across educational institutions and societal sectors.
